"Off Season"

As many cyclists turn to the "hamster wheel" or trainers as they are commonly called, I turn to the XC ski trails for keeping both my physical and mental edge throughout the winter.  Turns out both edges were tested with a brown/snow absent December and a spotty January.  Roller skiing on the pavement is about as fun as it sounds and falling hurts worse than you might expect it to!

Competing at the newly revamped Badger State Games in Wausau on Feb 4th, anticipation was high, but my fitness a large unknown.  With a usual odd start (stuck behind some guy in blue jeans!)  I settled in and ended up having on of the best races on skis I've ever had.  With that performance, I look ahead to next weekend's American Birkebeiner and have hopes that this year of "low training" might just be the year that puts me into Wave 1!  The way I look at it, I've trained little, but some parts of the state have trained far less.

Whatever comes of next weekend, I'm already ramping up my workshop for the necessary tune-ups to come in March for the races in Spring.  Already super excited to have received my new Bontrager Aeolus 3 D3 tubular wheels which I'll look forward to powering under my new Madone!   Could have sworn the wheels were not even in the boxes they were shipped...they are THAT lite!

With the additions to the team, 2012 promises to be another great year for the Trek Midwest Team!
